about

John Clark improvised this classic anthem on his French horn late one night in the Grand Canyon during the Consort’s 1985 recording expedition. They had been playing for several hours in their favorite acoustic space in the entire Canyon, a reverberant box canyon affectionately nicknamed “Bach’s Canyon” located off the Colorado River. It was well past midnight, but Paul Winter encouraged John Clark to play just one more solo. John came forth with this masterpiece, which Paul Winter says that to his knowledge, “is the greatest French horn solo ever recorded.”
